Hello Friends and fellow lovers of this City,
I am writing to make you aware of a very important issue that we are facing as a community. The City Council approved the request for a $31 million Bond for the construction of a new Courts facility and Police Facility. Since this is such a large expenditure, I feel that the voters of Ann Arbor should have a direct voice in this decision process. I have therefore supported a group of taxpayers who have
decided to present a Referendum Petition on this matter.
The Referendum will put the $31 million Bond Issue on the ballot in an already scheduled election. But, before the people of Ann Arbor can vote on acquiring this debt, 9,400 valid signatures must be gathered. This is a monumental task for a community.
Therefore, I am asking you to volunteer in this worthwhile effort. Not only will this be an opportunity to participate in a basic democratic process, but it will also be a way of meeting new people and can be fun. Another clear benefit of gathering signatures on the petition will be increasing voter turn out in November for many studies show that direct voter contact produces more participation.
This is the year of great grassroots involvement all around the country; let’s put A2 in the spotlight! Thank you for your involvement in our City’s future.
Mike Anglin, Council Member Ward 5
